The course was created in combination with asking large traders how they used the techniques of W.D. Gann. This was put together in an easy-to-understand course designed for the average person. The course includes dozens of charts and illustrations which were not included in the courses of W.D. Gann. The course length is 200 pages. An Excel template was also developed to help the students with master table and circle charts. It is included with the course. It has electronic versions of all the master charts including the square of 4 and 9. It is possible to extend these master charts out to infinity with the Excel template.

Does not meet expectation

This book has a good story line in Chapter One about W.D. Gann's life, but the trading techniques described are far from anything for traders to lean on.

I have been in the financial field for nearly 15 years and a professional trader for five years and I don't think this book should be named Gann Master Course. The title is very misleading and super disappointing.

I understand the author won first place in Robbin Trading Championship a couple times and I was hoping this book can help horn my techniques with Gann; nothing in the book is worth $29. I don't want to disparage his work; but there's another book that's better value with explanation on square of 9, time line, overlay for 1/3 of the price.

The book does not have hyperlinks (this may be a technical know how issue). Chart illustrations and interpretation seemed to teach others to rely on luck rather than actual trading experience.

Not a Worthwhile Buy

Too much written with too little explanations. This is supposed to be a explanatory course ... not a descriptive treatise. The explanations are incomplete with intervening explanations being omitted and too much being taken for granted. This is typical of experts who are indeed experts but inept teachers. Don't expect the Gann principles to become clear from this book. Frankly, I have gone through 32% of the kindle version ... and I am totally confused with many more questions to be answered than when I had started the book!!!
Teaching is an art ... authors should stick to writing books, not manuals and courses such as this ... this is the job of those artful teachers who understand the need of the beginners and how to, gradually and systematically, transform a beginner into a master.
This does nothing of the kind and seems to be just a journal or documentation of the author's need to document his thoughts. This course is definitely not recommended for anyone who wants to learn and understand Gann's principles, practices and philosophy. Waste of money ... don't buy it.

the book is mostly about investing in commodities not stock and it really does not explain gann's law of vibration or explain how gann did what he did. The more i read about gann the harder it gets seperate myth from the man. This book definitely does not do it for me.

Good Survey of American Music

I teach a course in United States music history at the high school level, and this college text is a good stretch for my students. It is clearly written, well organized, and provides great points for departure in my lectures. The accompanying CD set, though not perfect, is a convenient way to bring in examples and allows for some independent study. Music history teachers can augment the examples with their current CD holdings.
The text surveys "American" music, not just music of the United States, although that is in the majority. The distinction of American versus U.S makes for a good discussion point throughout the semester. We do not take the chapters in order (we begin with music of the early European settlers), and the book lends itself to that flexibility.
Although there may be better texts for specific music history topics, (i.e., Jazz or contemporary "serious" music) this is an excellent survey text for the advanced high schooler or college music history survey course. Term paper suggestions, questions for additional research and bibliography are included at the end of each chapter.

I ordered this book for my college class, and thought it had the CDs. It doesn't. I spent a lot of money for being "just" the book.

Uneven in its weight to genres of music

This is a concise edition of Daniel Kingman's previous book of the same title. I know of it having been used as a high school textbook on American Music.

Kingman's book begins with a great introduction of some of the various ethnic/folk musics of the American musical tradition: Anglo-American, African-American, American Indian, and Latino backgrounds. Part Two looks at music which germinated from the South-Country, Blues, and Rock. Other sections examine popular sacred music, secular music, jazz, a substantial section on classical music, and a small epilogue on other regional styles.

This text is good because it is not too difficult to read and interesting overall. Kingman does a good job of introducing the music and providing useful descriptions of each style.

His bibliographies at the end of each chapter are fantastic, and he also provides many useful project ideas which would work great for high school/college classes alike

Unfortunately, there are a host of problems. First, the section on jazz is too short (30 pages), as well as those on rock (25 pages) and musical theater (20 pages). Kingman also neglects to put each movement in its proper historical context. This does not seem to be an important goal for him.

Many courses teach either American Popular Music or American Art/Classical music, not both. There are better texts out there which are more specific. For a survey course on all American music, this can work, but will certainly need to be supplemented with primary source materials and information on jazz, rock, Broadway, and other areas.

Systems Engineering - A Good Introduction

Good introductory book on Systems Engineering, covering most important subjects (Introduction to Sys. Eng., Conceptual, Preliminary and Detailed Design and Development, and a nice chapter on Engineering Management).

In some figures it presents a process for engineering a system, along with explanation and examples. I enjoyed A LOT this approach.

Presents information on standards (MIL-STD-499B, IEEE-1220, EIA-632) and a brief overview of SEI's Capability Maturity Model for Systems Engineering (CMM-SE).

What I liked is that it is "straight to the point" and an easy to read book.

Downside: it has no exercises at the end of each chapter.

I recommend it for both students and practitioners.

Sariel has show again his excellence in "show and tell" when it comes to dealing with the complex world of Lego Technic.

I read this new edition with little sense of deja-vu, as it contains new chapters and the images are really better than the first version.

If you are interested in understanding the Lego Technic world, beyond making the models in the box, this book is a must. And even when you do not feel like creating MOCs (My Own Creation), it will help you understand why your model is built the way it is.

If you have ever experienced or been frustrated by people who seem to have a hidden agenda then you will enjoy and benefit from this book. The author states (some are paraphrased) and explains the following:

1. The evil hide their motives with lies.

2. Evil people want to appear to be good.

3. When confronted by evil, the wisest and most secure adult will usually experience confusion.

4. Evil seeks to discourage others to think for themselves (fosters dependency).

5. To oppose evil we must have an ongoing dedication to reality at all cost.

I agree that to be mentally healthy we must believe what is true and only what is true. After reading this book you will be better equipped to deal with people who cause strife and confusion. It will also help you identify thought patterns where you are lying to yourself.

I remember picking this book up about 5 years ago and scanning through the first couple of chapters thinking to myself, "What is this guy talking about? I can't even fathom people that act like this." It just didn't ring true because my experience had not seen the likes of what he was trying to explain.
Fast forward 5 years later, and after going through a harrowing job experience with two people who could star in a movie representation of this book (which, come to think of it, has already been done in a film called SWIMMING WITH SHARKS in the character played by Kevin Spacey), I read it through in a single sitting. Peck so accurately diagnoses the "people of the lie" as being so self-absorbed and narcisistic that they continually make excuses about the abuse they heap upon other people, somehow turning every story 180 degrees in the opposite direction and always claiming victimization when the situation so clearly points to them as the perpetrator. It is a sad indictment of what must be a pandemic within institutions, as these folks clamor and cling to power, money and title oblivious to the human carnage left in the wake of their passing.
But even still, where our hearts are naturally inclined toward revenge, Peck cautions us, coaxing us toward pity for these wretched creatures. He suggests that whatever vile hellaciousness we could dream up as pay back should be tempered with the notion that these folks have consigned themselves to live in a hell of their own making (kind of like Annabella Sciorra in the movie, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME). The dark night of the soul sees their hearts scream out, "I hate you, you're nothing" when the worst some of us deal with is, "Ack... dumb mistake... oh well... keep going."
Bravo... this book rings true, even if it took a second reading. Context is everything!

Thought provoking and entertaining

Don't even consider buying this book if you haven't read the author's first book "The road less traveled." This is a sequel to that book and a lot of the notions and concepts discussed here were established in the first book. Besides, the author, M. Scott Peck, introduces many controversial suggestions in this book, and most of his findings are either shocking or, at least, unusual. Only by reading the first book you will establish the respect and admiration of the author's wisdom and intellect necessary to hear out his out of the ordinary ideas.
"The road less traveled" is a psychological study of love and of human spiritual growth, or in other words, the good side of humanity. This book is a follow up to that study. It is only logical that when you study the light that you wonder about the darkness. However, human evil is a concept totally alien to the science of psychiatry. Besides, as the author himself admits, using the term "Evil" can be an act of evilness itself! It is also highly risky to approach the flames of evilness without catching up on its fires yourself! With these precautions Dr. Peck begins a fantastic book in the study of human evil through the eyes of psychiatry.
The book begins by telling in detail the story of one of his patients who seemed to be a happy man leading a very normal and healthy life. However, as he carries on, we start realizing along with Dr. Peck that evil was staring the man in every corner of his life, hiding in his problems and even among his family members! It is by the end of the story we realize that this normal person literally did sell his soul to the devil!
How did this happen? How can one sell his soul to the devil? Does the devil even exist? With these questions Dr. Peck dives into the study of evil in human beings. Dr. Peck claims that evil does exist, but it's neither incurable nor unavoidable! And the only way to combat evil is to admit to its existence and to recognize its danger. How can you fight something that you don't even believe is true, he says.
Dr. Peck explains why scientists dismiss the idea of the existence of evil and how that is caused by their limited perception of what science stands for. He then carries on by giving examples of some of the cases he had to deal with where he allegedly met with the human evil. And in one chapter he dedicates it wholly to one story of one of his clients whom he failed to heal after more than 5 years of therapy because he didn't have the knowledge or the courage to admit that it was evil that she was suffering from. Later on he explains a different manifestation of evil that he terms as "The group evil." He explains that evil can be present in a group even if all of its members were not individually evil!
The end of the book talks about the dangers and the hopes of creating a science that studies evil. Once I finished the book, I had even more respect for Dr. Peck than I ended up with after reading his first book. Dr. Peck's writing style is pleasant and easy to comprehend. And his story telling techniques are exciting as well as thought provoking. By reading this book you will definitely have so many thoughts to ponder on for many days whether you agree with the author's findings or not. By reading this book you will definitely add intellectual, and possibly moral, value to yourself, and will probably find it highly entertaining at the same time. I totally recommend buying this book.
Nevertheless I have one serious reservation about this book, and it's in Chapter 5, which is titled "Of possession and exorcism." In that chapter the author takes one hell of a detour and starts talking about his personal investigation of the myth of possession and the alleged healing practice of exorcism. The shocking finding he throws in your face is that both are true and that he personally witnessed two exorcism procedures, one of which was a possession by Satan himself!
And even though I try my best to remain an open minded person by being receptive of every point of view out there, I can't accept such an outrageous claim if not accompanied with evidence and reason. The author's attitude in that particular chapter, surprisingly atypical of him, was very vague and unclear. He claims that the two exorcism experiences he went through were intense and that to give them justice would require that a whole separate book be written about them. Hence, he would only give us the impressions and resolutions he came out with from those experiences.
I, in my humble opinion, find that argument fallible! I don't think that anyone would've minded adding 200 more pages to that chapter just to hear those stories! Besides, if he truly thought that they deserve a book of their own then how come he never wrote one? I am mostly surprised because he never failed to extend proof and reason whenever he's presenting an unusual thought. This time it was very different though. By the time I reached the end of that chapter I felt that I was totally deceived by the author and that he did not deserve the respect I had for him.
However, once I started the following chapter, he gained back my respect of him and more immediately! I don't know what to think of chapter 5 and whether I prefer that I didn't read it or not. But, as I said previously, this book including chapter 5 will leave you thinking whether you agree with its findings or not.
I recommend it.

Born in Canada, Zetta Elliott (Brooklyn, NY) moved to the US in 1994 to pursue her PhD in American Studies at NYU. Her poetry has been published in several anthologies, and her plays have been staged in New York, Chicago, and Cleveland. Snow can be cold, wet and cause kids to miss out on school, especially when there is a whole bunch of it. But, in spite of that, some children don’t seem to mind. As a matter of fact, some children love the way the snow crunches when they walk, tickles their tongue and how it’s just sticky enough to make the perfect snowman. When the snow is blowing and blinding because there is a blizzard, some kids still love the snow.

It has also given him a unique vantage point to speak on Thailand and Thai people from the perspective of tourist, foreigner, expat and resident. The expat experience, in particular, has enabled him to form an unbiased interpretation of the benefits and disadvantages of being a foreigner living and working in Thailand.

One of the Best Thailand Books I've Read (and I own a LOT of them!)

Over the years, I have purchased a number of books while in Thailand and thought I had just about everything. I wandered into Asia Books at Mega BangNa yesterday and after a quick glance through, decided to buy this book, which is quite up to date and relevant. It is well written, colorful and a pleasure to read. It covers just about everything an expat or annual visitor (like me) has encountered while in Thailand. Any book that has a reference to Si Ouey and some of the classic farang and Thai gaffes gets a definite seal of approval for authenticity. Whether you're a seasoned Thailand traveler or just discovering your way around, this is a great, contemporary book to have handy. Very enjoyable!

I am always looking for a book to be a gift for my friends... I am Thai and my English is not too good. Problem is, when I talk with my foreign friends, they always ask me about Thailand and I don't know how to give them the information. But when I found out that Jody wrote this book, I feel I trust him after reading every word and I can feel the love he has for Thailand. Now I know I have the perfect gift for my friends ...

Wonderful insight into the delightful intricacies of life in Thailand. Having visited Thailand before I could relate to quite a lot of what was written in the book. It's well presented, fun, informative, and worth your time. After reading you'll be ready to buy a ticket and head over to the Land of Smiles to experience everything first-hand. Pick up a copy and give yourself a lesson in everything Thai.
