About the Author

Mark Holborn is an editor and designer of books, as well as a writer, who has worked internationally with many leading artists and photographers. It is beautiful. When this volume was announced

I was given a copy of Mapplethorpe The Complete Flowers some years ago for my birthday. It is beautiful. When this volume was announced, I was interested but not in a hurry to get it since I had the earlier title. This is a very nice book! The illustrations are excellent and of comparable quality to the early book. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Mapplethorpe's work on flowers (Considered by many as among the best..especially his black and white work).

Open . . . Wounds

If you've read some of my posts, you know one of my complaints about Christian fiction is that so often we get more of the same without much variety or imagination. This occurs primarily in the romance and romantic suspense genres, but predictability can show up anywhere. That's why it's so utterly enjoyable to review a novel which is written incredibly well with a fascinating plot that allows for immense satisfaction even if or when the dots can be connected early.

Alton Gansky's latest release aptly titled Wounds and published by B&H Publishing Group is an exceptional crime novel with well-defined characters, two of which are uniquely connected by a single tragedy which has severely altered their lives for nearly 30 years even though they aren't introduced until a murder unites them. Their still open wounds have been festering and healing seems incongruous but an absolute need.

Detective Carmen Rainmondi lost her sister to what she's convinced was a murder many years ago. She's never given up on finding out who took her sister's life although officially attributed to a car wreck. It's a cold case that simmers in her psyche and never cools off. She's walled up her heart to control the emotional breakage caused by the unresolved loss of her younger sister.

Dr. Ellis Poe is shocked and saddened to learn that a student at the seminary where he teaches has been murdered but equally shocking is the deliverer of this news. Recognizing the female detective from a distant past that haunts his everyday existence with guilt and remorse, Dr. Poe must find a way to reveal his secret to Detective Rainmondi and suffer the inevitable consequences.

A series of grotesque murders begins in the San Diego community while detectives attempt to figure out if, how, and why they're connected. A purposeful Dr. Poe visits the police department to see Detective Rainmondi and is literally sickened by the murder board pictures in the room where she agrees to talk with him. Distracted by the heinous photographs, the professor is able to see the one thing that ties the murders together and insinuates there are more to come.

Carmen is an intentionally lonely soul with a hard edge. Dr. Poe chooses his loneliness as a deserved punishment and allows depression to rule his soul. His faith is strong, but his practice of it is shallow and plagued with guilt. In different ways both are pitiable. Their connection proves to be intense and climactic.

The only enhancement to the story, for me, would've been some bona fide spiritual warfare at the end, but it would've been out of character for Dr. Poe's faith so the conclusion works perfectly.

Alton Gansky is a veteran writer of exciting and innovative adventure and mystery novels, and this story joins the mix with outstanding prose which gives his characters a clever combination of wit, sorrow, and tenacity. An interesting story with plenty of tension, Wounds gives lovers of crime novels a genuine treat to read. I loved this book.

gritty, but an awesome read

I have read several of Alton Gansky's books, but this one has to be his best ever. It had a teriffic plot. Even when it became obvious where the plot was going, it only became more suspenseful. I liked the characters, epecially the two main ones who though so totally different in every way, were connected by their past.

This is a gritty novel. If you're wanting to read a cozy little mystery, this book is not for you. In fact, other than the killings, which I won't give spoilers away, and one of the characters, there isn't much Christian about the book. There is still a Christian world view, and the book is clean from bad language. There is a lot of violence, but it isn't overdone or too graphic, in my opinion. Good does triumph over evil in the end, and though the issue of forgiveness on someone's part was left up in the air, I enjoyed the ending of the book as much as the rest of it. I had been looking forward to reading this book, and I was not disappointed. Gansky outdid himself on this book, and I would put this book up against any of the secular best seller books in the thriller/suspense genre'. It is awesome.

Beyond Brilliant!

Wounds is a book that will WOW you! I was so addicted to this book I plowed through all 379 pages in a day. It's one of those books I kept reading faster and faster because I was dying to know how it ended and then I was totally depressed as soon as it was over!

Gansky is a genius storyteller and he paced this book with the precision and skill of a master. I never got bored because he dropped clues at just the right time to keep me intrigued. I loved the plot and how he connected all of the characters together in the most unexpected of ways.

The characters he created are complicated with so much more to them than initially shown. Detective Carmen Rainmondi has a case on her hands that can make or break her career. All murders are personal to her after the brutal slaying of her sister but this one becomes quite personal. A strange witness, Dr. Ellis Poe who is a college professor linked to the first murder seems to be hiding something but she can't figure out what it is.

I was really interested in the religious historical aspect of the story. Gansky has a genius mind to take these events from history and create such a twisted, complex plot. The Biblical parallels were incredibly detailed and well thought out. I couldn't wait to see what would come next.
This book had the most perfect ending. He tied it up exactly as it should be and the last line of the book was perfection. Of course I'm not going to give it away - you have to read for yourself. But I loved that it was realistic and he didn't make some unrealistic happy ending complete with a pink bow.

Wounds is the best book I've read in ages and I'd give it more than five stars if I could!

Well, I got a job!

This book certainly has good information in it, but I feel that it is almost a little too comprehensive and limiting.

The twelve frameworks offered by Cosentino were all very useful, but under the stress of an interview, I feel that it can be almost confusing. The author states that they are all very similar, so I don't know why he did not create 3 or 4 frameworks and explain how they should be expanded and modified to fit a particular situation.

On the other hand, this book had a wealth of information. The sections on case thinking in general, the "Case Commandments", and the practice cases were all extremely helpful.

I recommend this book to anyone going through the case interview process. The key is to focus on the mindset and not on the specific details. I got a job with a "Big 3" firm, and I owe much of that to this book.

Its a great book for preparing yourself for the case interview with consulting firms. The author really makes it an easy read with good humour so you don't get bored after reading the first chapter. The framework and system that he outlines gives you the best foundation to tackle any case that is thrown at you. A definite buy if you're going to a consulting interview.
- Read the book (more than once)
- Practice as many cases as you can (with friends, colleagues...)
- don't leave it to the last minute!!
With this book you'll have no trouble mastering the case.

Best Prep You Can Get

This book is outstanding. Cosentino is a confident writer who clearly knows his stuff. To be fair, his book could be somewhat intimidating at times, making you second guess your preparedness/competencies, but it does help jolt you to reality and push you to study hard. The layout of the book is well organized, and the sample cases are extremely helpful. My interview with McKinsey & Co. is coming up, and I am feeling much more prepared after having gone through this book.
