Practical Classics & Car Restorer's E-Type Restoration

This book is a soft cover, perfect bound collection of articles as they appeared in originally in a magazine that chonicles the sponsored restoration of an E-Type Coupe. Good details and clear write ups of the steps and challenges they faced including a few special expert tips on the process. As a DIY planning to restore an E-Type, I was very happy with this publication and would recommend it to anyone considering the restoration of one of these classics.

There is a second publication from Jaguar World/ Jaguar Enthuiasts' Club that looks similar and is also published by Kelsey Books, but of these two books on E-Type restorations (I have read them both), I felt this one was the superior publication.

Collection of articles in turning a "rust bucket" E-Type FHC into a respectable concours car. A lot of gritty details on what had to be done to this particular car and some tips on what to look for in your own restoration. Interesting reading but not everything will apply to your project. Worth having on your bookshelf just to encourage you if your own restoration falters

of an E-Type coupe. Many obscure operations are reported and illustrated. It is a good book for the beginning restorer.
However, it does not go into any operation with enough detail to substitute
for a shop manual.

Timeless writing, enjoyable today.

This is a compilation of timeless translated works from the 1700s of witty, insightful writer Isabelle de Charrierre. Many of her novels (very short by today's standards) are in letter form, giving us a strong sense of the primacy of letters in this time period. This collection is notable for its inclusion of her open letter to Marie Antoinette on how she should be living - an unfortunately timed work that probabaly arrived as Marie Antoinette was taken to the Bastille, so it lands like a kick on one who is all ready down. And, as with many great writers, her last novel is the best, including many of the themes that infused her work (questioning the idea of social rank as significant in love and marriage), as well as being a deftly woven complex comedy. Her works are easy to read, and filled with insight into the rigidity of the social world of the nobility of the 1700s.

Before Impact Interview, Lewis was Microsoft's Director of Product Management. Prior to Microsoft, he worked at Google, leading new AdWords product launches.

Lewis holds a B.S. in computer science from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He also serves on the advisory board for University of Washington's software product management program.

very practical book

The book it very practice for brushing up PM interview skills. I like the framework it provided. Simple to use. The model answers and critique also help to understand what's a good/bad answer. Comparing to the "Cracking PM Interview", this is more narrowly focused on practicing specific type of interview questions as most of the sample questions are specific to a few web products. "Cracking PM Interview" is more comprehensive book with broader coverage of PM career path, roles/responsibilities, and the questions are more general in scope. I think both are good. I'm reading both. But I think the framework in this one is easier to remember. But interviews are something that require a lot of practice in person. The book provides good supporting materials.

Decode, Conquer and Learn to be a Better Product Manager

This book does an excellent job of cutting through a lot of the noise that is so common in product interview blogs, etc. and provides applicable frameworks and example answers to common interview and case scenarios that you can learn from... The key phrase here is "learn from". If you are interested in learning to fish rather than having a book that gives you a fish (although that would be interesting!), then this book will become an invaluable resource in your career development that you will likely reference many times. While this book is great for preparing for a product management interview, I also see a lot of value in referencing some of the concepts when you're actually working as a product manager. For example, using some of the product design frameworks to analyze and deconstruct existing products is helpful for staying sharp as a product manager, but you can also leverage these concepts on the job to create better products and/or companies.

Lewis helped me put my best foot forward

I just got a dream job offer from a startup in Silicon Valley that I had been targeting for a while. Lewis' book and his coaching made this happen.

My key challenge was that I wasn't structured in my answers, and my answers were too long. The book helped me get more structured. The coaching helped me learn how to hold interviewer's attention by crafting narratives and keeping answers to the right length with just the right amount of details.

The preparation doesn't change who I am or my PM skills, but Lewis helped me put my best foot forward. I felt that I was clearly able to demonstrate a) how I would work with them b) how I would make a great product.

juggling the (extra)ordinary

In the context of Derrida's early project - to provide a critique of the foundational human science - linguistics - Of Grammatology is an essential book. In it he develops ideas about "writing" and about the "trace", ideas which illuminate much about the modern science of linguistics. His work is an astringent when applied to other more "analytical" philosophers of language (e.g. John Searle).
Derrida's writing style may seem difficult at first, until one realizes that it embodies two other important ideas - play and undecideability. Of Grammatology is not exactly a book of philosophy, and not exactly a book on linguistics, and not exactly a literary work but one which rests uneasily among these three disciplines. By not drawing conclusions, by keeping in play many concepts at once, Derrida manages to provide provocative ideas on mental representations while at the same time instantiating these ideas in the ebb and flow of the work itself.
Because of its kalidescopic style, the book can be read for the pure enjoyment of a rambunctious entertainment, and as an important philosophical text, and as a satire, and as profoundly serious.
As the academic furor over "decontruction" dies down, Derrida's work perhaps can begun to be read for its human importance. Those who value an insistent questioning will find a champion here.

What does this mean?

I was unable to figure out what this book meant. I kept reading, hoping things would get clearer, but I got the impression that the language just kept on going round in self referential circles, not actually talking about anything clear that I could grasp. It's like, just when I thought it was about to come out and say something that made sense, it seemed to end up saying something else instead. Infuriating. Can someone please sum up what Derrida was trying to say here?

Among the most important texts of the 20th century

This volume is central to Derrida's project and is, perhaps, his single most important work. In it, one finds the essentail contentions that inform his other essays. Whether one views, from the analytic tradition, these concepts as indulgent rubish or as culmination of a pre-Socratic force hidden under the ubiquitous effects of Plato and Aristotle, they are critical in understanding the disjunctions of philosophy.
While Derrida's writing may be difficult because it is both dense and playful, allusive and iconoclastic,these presentational "quirks" are not empty but tied to the basic structures of his argumentation.
Since its publication, popular characterizations of this book have attributed to it positions it does not hold. Derrida is, among his other gifts, a scholar of the first order and behind his statements are close readings of many of the philosphical greats that preceded his effort. This is not the babbling of the manic mind but a huge encounter with the dominant tradition of interpretation.
Such a gigantic target cannot be exhausted in one volume, but even if one wishes to affirm the analytic tradition, this volume should be read with the respect and care one gives a worthy enemy.

Each book begins with a description of the basic craft materials, a safety warning, and instructions with illustrations for the blanket sewing stitch. Although the titles have animal-specific crafts, they share some basic types of projects, with pet-theme variations. They both include directions for making a photo album, a treat container, a picture frame, a switchplate cover, jewelry, a child's accessory organizer, bookends, a lampshade, and more. Cat also has instructions for a catnip fish sewn from an old sock, a spider cat toy, and a doorknob cover. Dog additionally describes how to make a grooming caddy and a dog-collar cover. Every project is covered in a spread and finished products are shown in full-color photos. Materials are listed in well-delineated boxes; they are easily obtainable from the local discount store, fabric shop, or within the home. Full-sized patterns are included where necessary. Similar in format to Nancy Furstinger's Creative Crafts for Critters (Stoddart, 2001), Hendry's books focus more on projects with animal themes rather than on those for the pets themselves.

Gr. 4-6. Peppy pooches and fetching felines decorate myriad objects in these two companion volumes in the excellent Kids Can Do It series. Jewelry, place mats, toys, and a variety of decorative accessories for both pets and people are among the 17 projects in each volume. Nicely designed, double-page spreads show the project step-by-step, each one clearly and succinctly described and illustrated with a color drawing. The left margin is devoted to a picture of the finished product and a list of required materials, most of which (cardboard, yarn, glue, clay, paint) are readily available. What's just as nice is the level of difficulty: middle-graders (and even some younger children) who like crafts can easily handle most of the projects on their own, though Hendry does occasionally suggest an adult's assistance for safety reasons. This is an outstanding children's craft book

I have been so pleased with this craft book. My daughter is six, and with a little help from me she has been very successful in completing some of these adorable crafts. The illustrated step-by-step directions are extremely clear and easy to follow. The materials are easy to find. There is a nice variety of skills involved (ie. painting, clay, simple sewing, etc.) Finally, so far all of our projects have turned out to look just as good as the samples in the book. A great find!

My nine-year-old daughter just loves doing crafts, and I like the fact that she wants to exercise her hands and her imagination. This wonderful book contains seventeen crafts that you can make for your furry little companion’s enjoyment. Each project covers two pages, and contains a picture of the finished craft, a list of what you’ll need, and wonderful step-by-step instructions with illustrations.

I really think that this is a well put-together book. I hate craft books that don’t give step-by-step instructions, whereas this book’s instructions are short and easy to follow, and the illustrations help you to know what you should be doing at each step. My daughter and I had a great time on these crafts, and the cat was pleased as well! All three of us highly recommend this book!

Very Poor Book

I almost bought this item but thank God we can download a trial before. I've made a wikipedia translation from english to portuguese and at the first sight, everything seemed pretty equals to wiki article. My biggest surprise was when I double checked against wikipedia and even the space and formatting stuff were copied. Those first chapters are absolutely equals to wikipedia. I didn't check all others but I think they follow the same approach.

My concern is not about copying wikipedia or not. But if it's wikipedia based (or wikipedia copied, in this case), it must have AT LEAST some kind of VISIBLE warning making people aware of this practice.
