About the Author
Robert Charrette always wanted to learn the arts of arms. This whole art and expertise he acquired from several American and international masters, in many places and seminars, with much labour and expense. He has composed this book to make the art easier to learn and in the understanding that without books, nobody can truly be a master or student of this art.

Affordable and Excellent reference for Fiore lovers

If you have an interest in Fiore and more importantly would like a reference book that is affordable search no longer. This book is an excellent breakdown of the Fiore system (if we can even call it such). I studied Fiore under an instructor, and was never given a book to assist in learning, as I turn the pages of this book I see the breakdown of lessons learned from the Il Fior Di Battaglia. I personally have a copy of the Getty manuscript, but unless you are proficient in Italian you will only see the plays without Fiore's input. The author includes photos of stances and transitions of the play with a description of how to execute the play. This takes the guess work out of interpreting Fiore's play. In the book he breaks down the Il Fior Di Battaglia based on each weapon plays ie unarmed, daggar, sword, etc. The introduction section of the book is well written and the author writes from a humble and experienced point of view. Considering the rarity of books published on Fiore's discipline this one is a gem that I hope will further the spread of Fiore instructions among practitioners.
Is this the definitive book? No, unless your reading the Getty you have to appreciate what the author has compiled in this book, and for many who know the book market, this will be a satisfying addition. I personally do not know the author, co-author, publisher or anyone associated with this book, I am simply a student of Fiore who was glad this book is available.

Must have for beginners

This is a great book!
It is not a historic word for word translation like some books. If your looking for a side by side translation then this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a book to learn Fiore dei Liberi's fighting art, then buy this book!
Robert Charrette gives a good summery and explination of Fiore's materal at the beginning of each section of this book. The book is broken up in sections that match up with the way Fiore presented the materal in the original manuscript. Mr Charrett covers the entire materal as it was presented in the manuscript not just the sword in two hands section.
At the beginning of each section Mr. Charrette gives what I would call an over-view of what Fiore is teaching. Mr. Charrette goes over Fiore's drawings (a key part of Fiore's teaching method), what Fiore wrote and how it was intended for the reader. Once having given you an over-view of what Fiore was trying to convey, Mr. Charrette then gives a complete lesson baised on what Fiore was teaching. This section then gives a brake-down of each technique using moden photography from several diffrent angles and show how it is applied.
All in all this is a must have for anyone who is looking to learn and use Fiore dei Liberi's fighting art.

Best Fiore book EHH-VUH-UHR!!!!

Just received this little gem of a book this past weekend and I am absolutely amazed at the level of systematized organization and intimate detail in which the book presents the source material. Having been without a good Fiore book on the market in my years of historical fencing, this one is a most welcome addition to my collection and will be utilized as I continue my studies and practice.
Fellow fencers, lovers of history, Fiore students, or those who would just like a good read about historical swordplay, BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!
